Chapter 117: Terrorist Attack
***
"Terrorist attack?"
Dr. Zhao's face turned pale, and he found it hard to believe.
As a metropolis with a population of over twenty million, Songhai held a significant position in the country, encompassing industries, finance, transportation, and shipping. Over the past few decades, not to mention terrorist attacks, even ordinary crimes were rare.
"Call the police, call them quickly," Dr. Zhao fumbled for his phone, attempting to dial the police department's number.
But there was no answer on the other end of the line.
"At this moment, everyone who can report has already done so. The police department's operators are overwhelmed, and they can't take your call," Jiang Yuer whispered as she closed the door quietly, speaking in a hushed tone.
"Let's stay here, and don't wander around."
Dr. Zhao's eyes filled with fear, and he looked anxious. "We can't stay here. The kidnappers are ruthless; they'll kill the hostages. Xiaojian, let's escape through the back door."
Jiang Yuer furrowed her brow and interrupted sharply, "Stay here!"
Dr. Zhao was taken aback, staring at his familiar colleague in astonishment. This young girl with a round face and a sweet, lively appearance had suddenly shown a stern and intimidating side that Dr. Zhao had never seen before.
This kind of sternness was entirely new to Dr. Zhao.
Jiang Yuer's expression softened as she whispered, "Listen, the commotion outside is dying down. It means most people have been subdued. Since terrorists have taken over the hospital, there are undoubtedly people guarding both the front and back doors, maybe even monitoring cameras. Staying here is the safest option."
Dr. Zhao nodded hesitantly.
In the surveillance room, Li Xianzong stood with his arms crossed, in front of the control panel. In his left hand, he held a walkie-talkie, while his right hand toyed with a butterfly knife. The bluish glow from the screens illuminated his sharp and cold eyes.
On the surveillance screen, in the lobby of the outpatient building, two armed individuals had already taken control of the situation. They were herding medical staff from the pharmacy, registration desk, and various offices onto the first-floor lobby.
Anyone who didn't cooperate was shot dead, brutally and mercilessly, as if they had no regard for their own moral values.
After killing a few people consecutively, the medical staff and patients no longer had any thoughts of resistance and cowered obediently.
For Spirit Realm practitioners, using their abilities to kill was far more efficient and accurate than bullets, but when it came to intimidating ordinary people, firearms were still the most effective.
To coerce a large crowd, violence alone wouldn't work; firearms were necessary.
"The first-floor personnel have been cleared out and gathered in the living room."
"The second-floor personnel have been cleared out and gathered in the living room."
Reports from his comrades came through the walkie-talkie.
Li Xianzong pressed the walkie-talkie and leaned in, whispering, "Go to the Obstetrics and Gynecology department, bring the medical staff down. If there are pregnant women, do not harm them."
"Hey! You, a bewitching monster, why are you pretending to be compassionate?" one of his companions sneered.
"I don't sympathize with the weak, but when my dad was alive, he often told me that children are the flowers of our country and deserve some compassion and care," Li Xianzong grinned.
Fujiawan Villa.
Fu Qingyang lazily reclined in a massage chair, closing his eyes to relax. His skin had an eerie reddish hue, and his muscles twitched slightly.
Two bunny girls crouched on either side of the massage chair, using their little hands to knead and soothe his sore muscles.
On another single sofa, Ling Jun squatted there, grabbing a piece of melon and putting it in his mouth, saying, "You're still working so hard. I remember you started practicing the Decapitation Technique at the age of ten, and you've been practicing for over ten years now. What level have you reached now?"
Fu Qingyang still had his eyes closed. "I've reached the level where I can decapitate your dog head with one sword."
"Nonsense!" Ling Jun protested. "I'm a Beast King, with two lives. You'd need two swords to kill me."
Suddenly, the two bunny girls' bodies stiffened, then slumped to the ground.
Fu Qingyang abruptly opened his eyes, his gaze as sharp as a sword.
Ling Jun, sitting on the sofa, struggled to keep his eyelids open as his body swayed. "So tired... darn it... it's the Dream Master."
His head tilted, and he fell asleep.
"Yichuan Mei?" Fu Qingyang snorted coldly, closed his eyes, and willingly entered a state of sleep.
Kangyang District Police Department.
Zhang Yuanqing had just stepped out of the restroom when she saw a civilian employee rushing up the steel staircase to the second floor.
Her face was anxious as she looked at the casually seated Guan Ya and called out, "The police department received an alert. Terrorists have attacked Pingtai Hospital. All the medical staff and patients in the outpatient building are inside."
"What?" Guan Ya immediately stood up and hurried to the office of the section chief.
Even Wang Tai, who usually paid no attention to external affairs, raised his head in astonishment, his face growing serious.
Pingtai Hospital?! Zhang Yuanqing felt like her head had been hit with a club, ringing in her ears.
Her aunt worked at Pingtai Hospital.
Zhang Yuanqing's face turned pale as she reached for her phone and asked urgently, "What's the situation at the hospital? Are there casualties? How many kidnappers are there?"
The civilian employee shook his head. "I don't have all the details. The police department is gathering personnel and preparing to head to the hospital. We need further investigation for specific information."
At least it indicated that the situation had just occurred. Zhang Yuanqing stepped aside, took out her phone, and dialed her aunt's number.
"I'm sorry, but the number you dialed is currently switched off. Please try again later!"
Switched off? Zhang Yuanqing cursed angrily.
At that moment, Guan Ya, accompanied by Li Dongze, Jiang Jingwei, and Teng Yuan, burst out of the office.
Li Dongze rushed forward, his face calm, and spoke rapidly,
"Depart immediately!"
The team quickly prepared, with Guan Ya pulling out two holsters from a desk drawer and hurriedly strapping them to her thighs. Wang Tai clutched his beloved notebook and got up.
They all walked out of the glass building and onto the business car that Li Dongze had parked at the entrance. The driver hit the gas, heading towards the police department's gate.
Pingtai Hospital wasn't far from the police department, and they rushed through red lights. In just over ten minutes, they arrived at the hospital.
Outside the hospital gate, police cars with flashing lights filled the area.
Dozens of armed police officers were facing off with a middle-aged man wearing patient attire. This patient stood outside the hospital gate, a walkie-talkie hanging around his neck, and he held a surgical knife to his throat, nervously shouting, "Don't come any closer! Let the Primordial Heavenly Sovereign come to see me."
The business car came to a stop, and the door swung open. Zhang Yuanqing immediately spotted her cousin leading the team.
He silently put on a duckbill cap and a mask.
Li Dongze carried a cane and strode toward Chen Yuanjun, speaking in a deep voice, "What's the current situation?"
Chen Yuanjun evidently recognized Li Dongze. His gaze swept over the business car behind him, and he replied in a low voice, "The kidnappers have taken control of the patients and medical staff inside the hospital. The extent of casualties is unknown at the moment. They refuse to communicate with us and have threatened to detonate a bomb if we dare to enter the hospital."
He paused for a moment, looking somewhat bewildered as he continued, "Their demands seem to be wanting to talk to the Primordial Heavenly Sovereign. I suspect the kidnappers might have psychological issues."
Li Dongze nodded slightly, scrutinizing Chen Yuanjun for a moment, and furrowed his brow. "Captain Chen, calmness is a necessary quality for a security officer. You seem too nervous and anxious. What's going on?"
He could easily see the anxiety and unease beneath this security team leader's stern exterior.
Chen Yuanjun forced a smile and said, "My younger aunt works as a doctor at Pingtai Hospital."
Li Dongze's expression tensed, and he patted Chen Yuanjun's shoulder without saying anything, then turned and returned to the business car.
"Jingwei!" He looked at the red-haired girl and pointed to the patient at the entrance, saying, "Retrieve his walkie-talkie, be gentle, and don't harm anyone."
Jiang Jingwei nodded excitedly. She immediately got out of the car, crouched down, and, with the protection of the police cars and officers, stealthily approached the patient's side.
Then, she bent her knees slightly, and in the next moment, she rushed towards the patient like an unleashed wild dog.
The security officers present only saw a black blur streak by, and before they could react, the red-haired girl was already by the patient's side.
She raised her leg high and kicked the surgical knife out of the patient's hand, then twisted her waist and leaped into the air, using her other leg to strike fiercely at the back of the patient's neck.
"Crack!"
The middle-aged man didn't even understand what had happened before he fainted.
The security officers rushed forward, subdued the patient, and Jiang Jingwei picked up the walkie-talkie, rushing back to the business car.
Li Dongze held the walkie-talkie, pressed the button, and said, "I'm the Section Chief of the Kangyang District Second Team. What are your demands? You can talk to me."
After repeating this three times, a defiant laughter echoed from the speaker. "I want to talk to the Primordial Heavenly Sovereign."
Zhang Yuanqing was about to speak but was stopped by Guan Ya, who placed a hand on her shoulder. Li Dongze seamlessly continued, "The Primordial Heavenly Sovereign isn't here. What's your purpose in seeking him?"
The arrogant male voice laughed, "He's not here? It seems my timing isn't quite right. I'll give you ten minutes. In ten minutes, I want to see the Primordial Heavenly Sovereign. Otherwise, I'll kill one person in a minute."
"If you dare to forcefully enter the hospital, I will have someone detonate the bomb, killing everyone."
Li Dongze looked at Guan Ya and used lip-reading to say, "Contact Chief Fu Bai."
Then, he spoke with determination, "You can attempt to detonate the bomb, but we will not compromise. If you're willing to accompany the people in the hospital to their graves, I will grant your wish."
Laughter echoed from the walkie-talkie, "Mr. Section Chief, you overestimate me. I don't have the courage to accompany these ordinary people to their deaths. As I mentioned, I will have someone detonate the bomb. They are all my recruits, servants of the Elusive Eye Judge, and they agreed immediately when I told them I wanted to retaliate against the authorities and society. Of course, my charm played a role in it."
Servants of the Elusive Eye Judge. Li Dongze's heart sank. "You're a bewitching monster?"
"You should have heard of my name. I'm Li Xianzong."
With this statement, the faces of everyone in the business car changed.
The opening of a large-scale slaughter instance was imminent, and they had expected that practitioners of evil professions might target Yuan Shi, but they hadn't expected that it would be Li Xianzong, the bloodthirsty bewitching monster. He didn't start with stealth or assassination but directly launched a terrorist attack.
His arrogance knew no bounds.
"It's already been a minute and a half; you don't have much time left. I'm waiting for your good news."
The walkie-talkie fell silent.
Li Dongze put down the walkie-talkie and looked at Guan Ya.
Guan Ya furrowed her delicate eyebrows. "Fu Qingyang isn't answering his phone."
Once again, a sinking feeling settled in the hearts of everyone present.
Li Dongze fiddled with his cane, pondering, "It seems the other party came prepared. If we don't meet Yuan Shi within ten minutes, Li Xianzong will withdraw, and no one in the hospital will survive. You all heard it just now; the kidnappers are servants of the Elusive Eye Judge. This terrorist attack was aimed at causing maximum destruction."
Ten minutes was too short for the attendants from other districts to arrive; the time was running out.
Teng Yuan spoke, "This guy is clever. Even if Yuan Shi doesn't come, he can retreat calmly and cause us a big headache in the process."
Zhang Yuanqing said in a low voice, "He's here for me; he wants to hunt me down. Chief, let me go in."
He was anxious, not knowing how his aunt was inside and if she had been injured.
Li Dongze glared at him, "Going in will only get you killed!"
"No!" Guan Ya immediately vetoed, her brows furrowing. "You're not that reckless."
Only Jiang Jingwei supported him, rubbing her hands together with excitement, her small face filled with combat spirit. "Let's charge in; watch me punch his dog head into pieces."
At this moment, the experienced Li Dongze demonstrated the calm and composure of a seasoned practitioner. He said slowly, "Don't be hasty. There are more solutions than problems. We need to devise a tactical plan."
